Artemis was about to reply when she heard a familiar voice. “About time you turned up, Bly.” The voice was teasing, with a hint of an Irish accent. Artemis turned to see Darcy Thatcher sitting on a low wall across the street, clad in the classic Time Overwatch Committee agent’s uniform of black fatigues and boots, her brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. She was wearing a smirk on her face that Artemis could easily spot from across the road.
“You miss me, Thatcher?” Artemis shouted back, mirroring Darcy’s smirk.
Darcy jumped off the wall and crossed the street. She stopped in front of Artemis and AJ. “Something like that. No one else is quite as good at diving head first into danger as you.”
“It’s a talent,” Artemis shot back, then gave her one of her genuine, ear to ear smiles. “Good to see you, mate.”
Darcy clapped her on the shoulder which from Darcy Thatcher was as close to a hug as anyone got. “You too.” She noticed AJ standing there, looking around. “Who’s your friend?”
“Right! Darcy, this is my girlfriend, AJ Mitchell. AJ, my partner in fighting time crime, Darcy Thatcher.”
AJ gave Darcy a friendly grin and held out a hand. “Nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about your adventures with Artemis.”
Darcy shook her hand and gave her a smile that was not quite as genuine. “Nice to meet you too.”
